Exit Experience at Ecole Globale, Dehradun
Our withdrawal and refund experience
After observing the emotional condition of our child during the initial days, we eventually made the difficult decision to withdraw her from Ecole Globale.
This was honestly one of the most painful decisions for our family because before admission, our child was extremely excited to join the school and begin hostel life.
We genuinely never imagined that our child might leave the school mid term.
During exit discussions, the admission team itself told us that this situation was actually quite common and at least 8–10 students leave every year during the initial phase.
We were also informed that many students do not return after vacations and that this is considered “normal” in boarding schools.
During the admission process, we honestly never even thought about the possibility of exit because our child was super excited to join the school and start hostel life.
Looking back now, we believe this was a major mistake on our side.
We should have clearly asked detailed questions about the withdrawal process, emotional escalation handling, and especially the refund policy before taking admission.
Please do not repeat the same mistake.
Once the emotional difficulties actually started affecting our child, the entire situation became much more serious than what had been casually described during admission discussions.
Communication During Withdrawal
During the withdrawal process, we expected empathy, urgency, and genuine emotional support considering the condition of our child.
Instead, many discussions suddenly started becoming cold, administrative, and policy-focused.
One thing that shocked us personally was the sudden change in communication behaviour.
Before admission and during onboarding, most communication from the school happened through WhatsApp messages and phone calls.
Emails were usually delayed or vague, while admission discussions mostly happened verbally.
However, the moment we informed the school about withdrawal, the same teams suddenly stopped responding properly on calls and WhatsApp and started repeatedly asking us to communicate only through emails.
This complete shift in behaviour during an already emotionally stressful situation felt extremely disappointing and honestly quite insensitive.
At multiple points, we also felt that the emotional condition of the child was being treated more like an “adjustment issue” or inability to adapt, instead of a serious emotional wellbeing situation requiring immediate stronger intervention.
Refund Experience
The refund experience was honestly one of the worst parts of the entire process.
Despite the short duration of stay, the school decided not to refund anything.
This included:
- • Boarding related fees
- • Food charges
- • Security deposit marked as refundable
- • Other fee components
What shocked us even more was that the school also decided not to refund the Cambridge (CI) examination fees which were supposed to be paid to the Cambridge board on behalf of students and they never paid to Cambridge Board.
From our understanding, the withdrawal happened so early that several services had either not started properly or were barely utilised.
Yet the overall attitude during refund discussions felt extremely rigid and heavily money focused.
Honestly, after seeing the emotional condition of the child, we expected at least some flexibility, compassion, or practical adjustment from the school side.
Instead, the experience gave us a very strong feeling that financial policies were being prioritised much more heavily than the actual wellbeing of the child and family.
Emotional Impact On Family
This experience affected not only our child, but our entire family emotionally.
As parents, it was heartbreaking to watch a child who was originally excited, motivated, and hopeful about boarding school become emotionally distressed within such a short period.
Even today, our child still occasionally gets nightmares related to the hostel experience and emotional stress from that phase.
The emotional recovery process continued long after leaving the school.
Final Advice To Parents
Please do not rely only on counselling promises, emotional assurances, or statements like “everything will be fine.”
Ask difficult questions before admission.
Ask specifically about:
- • Withdrawal process
- • Refund scenarios
- • Counselling escalation
- • Hostel adjustment failures
- • What happens if the child refuses to continue
Most importantly, get everything possible clearly confirmed over email before paying fees.
